Gujarat Earthquake, 2001

On 26 Jan 2001 at 8.46 AM, when whole nation was busy in celebrating the Republic Day of the nation, a devastating earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shook the entire state of Gujarat resulting into toll of deaths and massive destruction of property, infrastructure and live stocks. More than 20000 people died and 175000 injured in the disaster.
